How did you begin biking? Well, it all started when I was about 4 or 5 and my dad brought home a bike and thought it would be a good idea if I learned how to ride it. I wasn’t very good at it but eventually by the time I was 7 or 8 I had it down pretty good. I remember just loving to ride my bike up and down the street, it was the greatest thing ever! Then one day when I was maybe 12 years old my dad rented the movie “Rad”; that movie changed my life forever. There was Cru Jones riding his bike and getting rich and famous doing it! I said to myself I have a bike and I am not any good at any other sports so I might as well give it a try. That was 17 years ago, and now here I am today 29 years old and still trying to be like Cru.
Style: I don’t really know anymore. I just like being on my bike. I jump a little, I ride the mini-ramps and I spend a little time doing the flatland thing
Favorite spots: My own backyard. I really enjoy time spent alone on my bike and my backyard is kind of my personal little sanctuary where I can spend time with my bike, God, and all the little animals that live in the trees around my ramps.
Favorite trick: I seem to be stuck on doing X-up’s. I just can’t get away from throwing ‘em on other tricks. I also have a special bond with the Decade; I think it is because it is one of the first tricks I spent hours trying to learn.
Hardest trick: Right now the hardest thing for me to do is learning really nice big stylish 360’s. I have been able to spin a 360 for over 10years I just can’t seem to slow the rotation down to make it feel and look good.
Bike related injuries: The typical bumps, bruises and scraps. I was knocked out once, but I really don’t remember the details. I have fractured at least 2 fingers maybe more, fractured foot, and of course sprained ankles. And there is something wrong with both of my wrists but I haven’t had the time or the desire to visit a doctor.
Greatest accomplishment: Finally learning that success isn’t about my accomplishments, it is about allowing God to use the gifts He has given me to glorify Him. It took many years of failures to finally realize this. I guess I have to learn things the hard way.
Biggest riding influence: Cru Jones. He is the guy who really got me started in this BMX thing.
Dream: For God to continue to use and develop myself and Chaos on Wheels to bring glory to His Kingdom.
Motto: Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”
How did you come to know Jesus Christ? I was about 5 years old at one of my dad’s Bible School programs and he was talking about how God had sent Jesus down to earth to live and eventually die for our sins and how all we have do is believe this and except the gift of salvation and we will go to Heaven, or at least that is what I got out of it. I thought, if I pray a little prayer I will get to go Heaven, count me in! I continued to grow up in the church and even attended a Christian school for awhile. All of this helped educate me in what it meant to be a “Christian”, but I never really had a personal relationship. In High School I went through a rebellious stage where God and knowing Jesus really weren’t important or “cool”. It wasn’t until I had spent a few years out of school trying to be successful and failing that I finally realized that something was missing. It was at that point that I finally began to take all the things I had learned about God, Salvation and Jesus’ sacrifice for my sins and take the step to begin a personal relationship with Christ. It was no longer about a bunch of things I had been taught and thought I knew. It all became a real life changing experience where I could feel God working in my life.
How does Jesus work in your life? When I was 21 years old and finally took all the knowledge I had about Jesus and the Bible and actually turned it into a lifestyle that is when Jesus began to do great things in my life. I stopped wanting to listen to a lot of the music I was listening to, I stopped worrying about being cool, I stopped chasing after success, I really began to see what was important. Jesus works in my life everyday helping me to develop into the person God wants me to be. The change isn’t instant, it takes years for Jesus to work in our lives and for us to begin to lay aside all the garbage we have brought into our lives. God has great things planned for each of us and it is only through Jesus working in our lives and changing us that we will ever reach our full potential.
How did God call you to do what you do? God called me to use BMX as a ministry about 10 years ago. At that time Chaos on Wheels was all about being a profitable business. I had plans to do stunt shows, build a skate park and expand the bike shop I was running. It was all about turning a profit. We were doing shows at the County fair in Blue Earth, MN and at the time I used pretty much anyone I came across that could ride a bike, skate or in-line without much thought about who they were as a person. Anyway, there were a few guys that were doing shows that used some rough language and would go under the ramps and smoke. I didn’t really think it was a big deal until one day I was talking with a family I knew and they said their little boys went home after the show and started rolling up paper like cigarettes and started using some of the words they had heard. The little boys said they wanted to be like the guys they saw at the show. It was at that moment that God really hit me with the importance of using everything I do to glorify Him. Before that moment I hadn’t realized the awesome opportunity God had given me with Chaos on Wheels. I had been wasting God’s gift to try to further my agenda of money and worldly success when I could have been using the talents He gave me to change peoples lives for eternity. From that point on I began searching for riders that shared my desire to use their love for BMX to share Jesus with others. It took a bad experience for me to realize all that God had planned for my life. Now nearly 10 years later God has helped me to take my desire to ride my bike and use it to glorify Him. It is amazing because by giving into God’s plan for my life I have been able to accomplish so much more than I ever could have chasing after my own selfish desires.
What Chaos on Wheels has done for me: Well, this is kind of a weird question because I am Chaos on Wheels from a legal standpoint. I think as a concept Chaos on Wheels has helped me to realize my dream. I get to ride my little bike, talk to people about Jesus, see the world, and be the one who helps other riders realize their dreams as well. I guess Chaos on Wheels has really given me the opportunity to take all my successes and failures and use those experiences to help others.
Thanks: God for making this all possible, Jesus Christ for paying my way into heaven and giving us a message of Hope to share with others. I also need to thank Jenn for supporting me in all my crazy ideas. I think my parents deserve a lot of thanks; they did a great job as parents, a calling I now have lots of respect for. They were examples of how to live putting complete trust in God to provide for us, protect us, and guide us in every decision. The experiences I had while traveling with “Cowboy Ray” equipped me to do what I do today. People always said I would grow up to be like him and I guess in many ways they were right. I also want to thank all of the guys that have been a part of Chaos on Wheels. None of what we do would be possible with out these awesome riders and great friends that God has brought into my life. I want to thank all the individuals, churches, and organizations that have supported us over the years. You know who you are, Thank you so much. Lastly, I want to thank George Lucas for Star Wars and Indiana Jones, and most importantly Yoda and all his timeless wisdom.
Plans for the future: I try not to make to many plans because God is ultimately in control. I would like to continue developing Chaos on Wheels. But more importantly I want to raise my boys to be all that God wants them to be and try to be the father and husband God wants me to be.
Other interests: My life seems to be consumed with Chaos on Wheels and my family. When I have money to spend, I like to collect Star Wars toys. I also enjoy building stuff. I designed and built the Chaos on Wheels ramps. When I have time I enjoy the art of videography and video editing. There should be a new Chaos on Wheels video coming out soon if I ever find the time to work on it.

Years Riding: I think it has been over 15 years now, but that makes me sound old so let’s just go with 5 years.
Born in a hospital in Blue Earth, MN on a cold wintery night in January of 1976
Hometown: Elmore, MN, but currently in Joplin, MO
Contact: jeremiah@
chaosonwheels.com
Status: Happily married to my lovely wife Jenn, and we have 3 active boys Ethan, Micah and Levi
Music: I can’t play an instrument or sing, but I do enjoy the talents of others. I would have to say that Living Sacrifice is the greatest music group ever. However since they are no longer blessing us with amazing music I have had to fill in the void with groups such as, Project 86, Blindside, Inhabited, Spoken, Slick Shoes, Mortal Treason, many others I don’t have time to list and my newest favorite The Showdown. |
